From the very beginning we knew we wanted to create a woodland and luckily for us there are some grants available to help land owners to do this. With the aid of the North York Moors National Park we became the first site planted with trees as part of the carbon offset scheme for the new potash mine at Whitby. The trees were planted in the Winter of 2018 and despite a very dry period in the Summer they have thrived. The trees are all native broadleaf species as listed here: Common Alder, Silver Birch, Downy Birch, Aspen, Common Oak, Holly, Rowan, Wild Cherry, Crab Apple, Quickthorn, Blackthorn, Red Barked Dogwood, Elder, Goat Willow, Grey Willow and Osier.
