Astronomy

We are very fortunate to be in the North York Moors National Park which is one of a very few areas of the country that has been declared a “Dark Skies Friendly” area.

We are working with the National Park and the University of Madrid to monitor how dark the sky actually is and to see if light pollution from local centres of population are having an adverse effect on light levels. We have a very sensitive light meter installed which is linked with others in the National Park and ultimately to researchers in Madrid.

Whilst we are blessed with a dark sky we do have to contend with the astronomers curse…. clouds!

There is no guarantee but on a clear night from October through till March is is possible to image some amazing nebulae, galaxies and star clusters.

The Pleiades

The Orion Nebula

The Rosette Nebula

The Triangulum Galaxy
